Architectural / Religious / Historical sites
Traces of France's vast culture and history can be found throughout the Drôme region: the Rhône River once used to transport the Romans through the country; the 12th century Tower of Crest, the highest dungeon in France; the village of Le Poët-Laval with one of the only Protestant churches not to be eradicated during the 17th century religious wars; the Vercors mountains where the resistors of Vichy France stood strong against the Germans until their final fall in 1944; the 11th century Romanesque Saint-Michel church in the Garde-Adhémar; the post-gothic 16th century House of Heads in Valence. Discover one by one the pieces of history that have helped to define the Rhône-Alpes region.

The life of the Marquise de Sévigné
Madame de Sévigné's extensive correspondence with her daughter, Madame de Grignan (from the village of Grignan), provides us with a vivid image of French life in the 1600's. The religious lectures, gossip, and general thoughts and ideas of Madame Sévigné's letters were written with an unequivocal eloquence and humor; never disregarding the epoch's requisite formal etiquette of letter writing.
