The life of the Marquise de Sévigné
Madame de Sévigné's extensive correspondence with her daughter, Madame de Grignan (from the village of Grignan), provides us with a vivid image of French life in the 1600's. The religious lectures, gossip, and general thoughts and ideas of Madame Sévigné's letters were written with an unequivocal eloquence and humor; never disregarding the epoch's requisite formal etiquette of letter writing.
